Social Networking
This is an interesting topic. I think social networking can be a useful tool but can potentially cause problems for people, especially in a professional sense. I am not one to want all of my personal information out there. Therefore, I shy away from this type of networking. However, if you are careful I assume it can really help generate a large network of people who could potentially help your career. I think everyone could/can use social networking. You can learn much from other people and especially internationally. The positive implications for educators (including myself) include creating support groups, idea & suggestion forums, etc. The negative impacts could be loss in credibility and professionalism if you are involved in posting or relaying incorrect information.

I am also intimidated by social networking, and also see the benefit for career oriented social networking. I have had to force myself to start using social networking services like Linkedin and Facebook. Unlike most people I know, who get addicted to it once they start, I just don't have the time to.
I'm with you on the social networking too, Hailee. I'm learning to appreciate it from a few perspectives: staying in touch with family, assignments for a technology class and a way for employees of a company to stay up to speed with what the CEO's doing and saying. That's it.
You're abosultely correct with your concerns about being apprehensive to share personal information in a social networking setting. This fear presents an interesting irony abou the whole idea of usingt this technology. Just how effective can it be if we're all afraid of really sharing detailed information about ourselves? Consequently, inherent in the use of the technology is our desires to remain, somewhat anonymous. It seems that this phenomenon prevents us from really using the technology effectively.
